Hi....My name is Billy D'Ettorre, and on May 7th, 2008 I became "the new guy" on 95.1 The Fox, cohosting "The Billy D'Ettorre and Brother Wease Music Show". Many of you may be familiar with me, but some of you might be wondering who I am and where I came from. I'll try and tell you a little bit about myself.
I was born and raised right here in Rochester, NY and from the time I was old enough to turn the dial I was fascinated with radio. First, there was all that great (and not so great) music that somehow made it's way through the air and came out of the little speaker of my Superman transitor. Even more amazing was the fact that people got paid to talk about the music and other stuff. I still remember being a little kid and telling my parents "I want to talk on the radio when I grow up."
Can you believe it actually happened?
In the early 90's I was working in a stockroom at a local factory and listening to Brother Wease, like I did everyday, when he mentioned that he was looking for interns to help out on his show.
For those of you that aren't sure what interns are, they are unpaid assistants, but benefit by gaining experience in their field of interest, and usually school credit.
No school credit for me though... I just wanted to be in a radio station working for the guy that had been entertaining me for years. I arranged my work schedule so that I could go to the station a couple days a week to work on Wease's show, and with a combination of hard work, and a weird personality that kind of stuck out, I became a regular paid member of his staff.
I started as phone screener... then I was an assistant producer... then the executive producer... and then management decided I wasn't very good at my job, and they fired me (but let's not dwell on that).
I went back to factory work, but stayed on the radio because even though I was no longer on the Mon-Fri. morning show, I still got to be part of the music show Wease and I had been doing every Saturday for the past few years. I'm very proud to say that these were considered by many to be the best 2 hours of music on Rochester radio, entertaining listeners throughout Western NY with our eclectic mix of rock, blues, folk, soul, country, reggae, and whatever else we felt like playing.
That same show now continues here on 95.1 The Fox. Please feel free to email me here on my website, or call me on Saturdays from 10am- noon at 222-9500 and give me your comments and requests.
I still have so much to tell you about myself... stuff that doesn't have to do with my radio career, personal stuff, funny stuff, weird stuff, stuff I like, stuff I dislike, and even more stuff than that. Well, ya know what? Hopefully I'll be at The Fox for a long time, so I'm gonna keep a little blog right here, and anytime I feel like I've got some thoughts to share, and things I want to tell you about, this is where I'm gonna do it. Check back often, and if I go too long without any new posts call or email me, tell me to stop being so lazy and put up something new.
Thanks again for listening to The Billy D'Ettorre and Brother Wease Music Show.
