The Day After Super Bowl Sunday

Who didn't watch last night's Super Bowl?  Wease, Pauly, and Brooksie all lost money on their bets, but Wease said he would cover the bet of his gamblers-in-training.  Wease also had the under 2:05 for Alicia Keys version of the National Anthem... and it went a record breaking 2:43.

A discussion of the commercials leads to different opinions.

No Super Bowl commercial this year could match the bizarre spectacle of waiting half an hour for the power to come back on at the Superdome.  And then it ended up being a close, exciting game.  But some of the ads made an impression.

(--Watch ALL the ads, organized by when they appeared during the game, here.)

Taco Bell's "Viva Young" commercial was a lot of people's favorite.  It had the old people breaking out of a nursing home, partying all night, and acting like young people.  But setting it to a SPANISH version of "We are Young" by Fun was kinda distracting.  This was Wease's favorite.

Pauly liked the Dorito loving goat.

Billy was disappointed that Paul Harvey's tribute to farmers was a truck commercial, and not an actual tribute to farmers.

Was the Go Daddy commercial with Bar Refaeli making out with a chubby nerd gross or funny?  Pauly's GF thought it was gross, but all us ugly guys loved it.

Tools With Sports

With Johnny here we breakdown the Xs and Os of the big game, and the swing in momentum after the 34 minute blackout.

Lots of listeners call about various plays that could've been penalties, including the non-call on the pass interference/holding on Michael Crabtree at the end of the game.

Anybody know why the Baltimore coach was so pissed off during the blackout?

More Super Bowl

Pauly wonders if he loses his man card for this... Just as the game was starting last night his doorbell rang.  It was his landlord to as he and Ryann a couple questions, the landlord was invited in, and for almost an hour chatted... distracting Mr. Guglielmo from the game, and keeping him eating his pizza and wings like a gentleman, instead of the animal he wants to eat like.  Besides this, Pauly fell asleep with 5 minutes left in the game, while his football hating girlfriend stayed awake for the whole thing.

Wease was fine with all this, but thinks Pauly loses his man card for not talking to his landlord about the driveway parking situation.  Pauly and Ryann aren't allowed to park, even though they pay the most.

The Safety Dance

One thing that happened during last night's football game that affected everyone in a Super Bowl pool, whether it was $5 a square or $10,000 a square... that 2 point safety at the end of the game caused a lot of people to be really pissed, and an equal amount of people to be really happy.

Also another discussion of the best and worst Super Bowl ads, and we wonder how much local companies like the Lancers and Mark's Pizzeria pay to run commercials during the game.

Halftime

While talking about the huge halftime shows that the Super Bowl has had for the past decade we wonder what they will do next year when the game is outside in the cold next year in NY/NJ.  There is rumor of a big concert at MSG that a portion of will be broadcast live on the stadium's big screen at halftime.  Maybe go old school with a marching band, or a "non-headliner" because everyone will watch the game anyway.

Super Bowl Trip Winner/Loser

According to a CBC Canadian news report regarding the Super Bowl, one ought to think twice before laughing off previous lawless actions regarding pot possession and smoking – even in these times when the push by some states is to legalize marijuana. On Sunday, it was revealed that Myles Wilkinson, the winner of a trip to Super Bowl XLVII in New Orleans was denied the benefits of winning a fantasy football contest a couple of days ago when United States Customs wouldn’t let him enter the country from Canada due to a thirty-two-year-old pot arrest.

Wilkinson, 50, was arrested and convicted for possession of two grams of marijuana back in 1981. That arrest is still on his record and was the reason he was denied entry into the United States where – and only where – he could retrieve his tremendous prize.

The Vancouver Island resident beat the incredible odds of edging out approximately four million other players to with the prize which would have allowed him a trip to New Orleans to see the San Francisco 49ers play the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday.

At the airport, however, United States Customs agents unearthed the arrest the man had when he was 19, and he was denied entry to the country.

Wilkinson was quoted as saying:

I had two grams of cannabis. I paid a $50 fine. I can’t believe that this is happening for something that happened 32 years ago.

Bud Light Canada, the sponsor of the contest, invited Wilkinson to a Super Bowl party in Vancouver as a consolation. No word as to whether Wilkinson got over his shock and is attending the party there.

Wease says, to quote Kevin Meaney, "That's not right!!!"

Ray Lewis: Man Of God

This weekend Ray Lewis talked about the 2000 murder case he was involved in, and this quote where he talks about his relationship with God.  Did Ray Ray have this same relationship with the Lord before this issue?

Commercial Controversy

One of the more popular commercials from yesterday was the Paul Harvey "God Made A Farmer" commercial for Ram trucks.  Wease took some heat from listeners because he made the ad a right wing political statement from Harvey without even hearing it.  Pauly was bored by it.  As Billy said ealier, he liked the ad but was mad it was for a truck, and not actually a tribute to farmers.

Even More Super Bowl Chatter

A couple more Super Bowl ads that drew people's attention last night is the car ad with Willam Dafoe and Kate Upton.  A listener points out the cheap Mercedes that was advertised isn't being released until September.

We also go back to the Go Daddy ad with the nerd and Bar Rephieli making out... scroll up to see the commercial.  How many takes did they film?  Did he get to make out with the Super Model all day?  Lucky bastard!!
