Another sad story in my opinion.
Three Edison students were arrested Wednesday morning (the day before Thanksgiving) while waiting for the bus to go to a scrimmage on Main Street.
What were they doing wrong you ask? Nothing.. it seems.
According to Coach Jacob Scott's story (he's their varsity basketball coach) they were told to break it up. Allegedly, the police just didn't like the fact that a bunch of teenagers would be hanging out in a group.
The police report says the students were obstructing "pedestrian traffic while standing on a public sidewalk.. preventing free passage of citizens walking by and attempting to enter and exit a store.. Your complainant gave several lawful clear and concise orders for the group to disperse and leave the area without complaince."
My question is.. would this had happened if the Victor/Pittsford/Fairport/Name Your Suburb varsity basketball team had been standing there instead of Edison?
Here's Coach Jacob Scott telling his side of the story:
This story makes me so sad :(
To make a long story short.. a Pastor from Pennsylvania who resides over a congregation at a United Methodist Church decided to perform a marriage ceremony for his son.
The catch is that his son is homosexual and the marriage ceremony was between he and his now husband.
The United Methodist Church is against gay marriage. So a member of his congregation complained and it went to some sort of weird Methodist trial and they decided to suspend him for 30 days.
It gets worse. If at the end of the 30 days he refuses to denounce his son's marriage and to agree with the church's stance against gay marriage.. he gets suspended indefinitely.
My Take - I believe in God.. I do. I don't go to church.. I can't. This is one of the reasons. Until religion learns how to accept LOVE in all forms I cannot be a part of it. I'll cut my rant there as to not get too controversial but I'll just tell you that there are a couple of other issues I have with organized religion but this is a major one.
