Kathy Bates will play an 1830s-era serial killer on the next season of "American Horror Story", which is set to premiere October 9th.
The character is based on Madame LaLaurie, an actual woman who tortured and killed slaves with her husband in New Orleans in the 1830s.
Each season of the show has a different story, and "American Horror Story: Coven" is about witches that relocated from Salem, Massachusetts to New Orleans after The Salem Witch Trials.
Angela Bassett will co-star as Marie Laveau, the "Voodoo Queen of New Orleans." She's also based on a real woman from the 1830s. It's unclear if the whole season will be set back then, or if they'll use flashbacks or something.
Jessica Lange is returning for her third season. This time, she's playing a witch, and Sarah Paulson is playing her daughter. (Jessica has done all three seasons, while Sarah was also in the last one.)
