Last night was an episode of one of my favorite TV shows that I've both been waiting for, and dreading at the same time... the episode of "Glee" that addresses the death of lead character Finn Hudson, and therefore the actor that played him Cory Montieth who died earlier this year of a alcohol/drug overdose.
I didn't watch last night, but will be watching it On Demand eventually.
This is a show that I always watch with Susan (and I'm the one that turned her on to this show, not the other way around like you'd think), but I may have to watch this one by myself because I'll feel like the biggest baby in the world as I cry for an hour at a TV show.
I came across this list of quotes from characters on last nights show, and just reading them have me choked up (although a couple of them seem to be transcripted incorrectly, or are at least out of context).
1. Kurt Hummel (Chris Colfer)
"Everyone wants to talk about how he died, too, but who cares? One moment in his whole life...I care more about how he lived."
2. Mercedes Jones (Amber Riley)
"I remember Finn telling me that he sang this song ["I'll Stand By You"] to his baby's sonagram - well, he thought it was his baby. He was the first cool kid to be nice to any of us and he was our leader in here. We love you Finn."
3. Burt Hummel (Mike O'Malley)
"I should have given him more hugs. You know the last time I saw him, he was so bummed out about some test at school and I just, you know, told him to 'get back at it,' he was worth it. It was the perfect time for a hug, but for whatever reason I gave him a pat on the back. Just that. Now he's gone."
4. Carole aka Finn's Mom (Romy Rosemont)
"How do parents go on when they lose a child? You know, when I would see that stuff on the news, I would turn it off, because it was just too horrible to think, but I would always think, 'How do they wake up everyday? How do they breathe?' But you do wake up. And for just a second you forget and then oh, you remember. And it's like getting that call again and again every time. You don't get to stop waking up. You have to keep on being a parent even though you don't get to have a child anymore."
5. Santana Lopez (Naya Rivera)
"I have hated you ever since the day I met you [Sue Sylvester]. You are a horrible person who never had a nice word to say about Finn Hudson. So you don't you dare think he didn't hate you, too."
6. Will Schuester (Matthew Morrison)
"I feel more than I know how to express; I'm heartbroken. To be honest, I don't know how we're all supposed to move forward. But, in the meantime, I have to make sure that the people around me are taken care of."
7. Puck Puckerman (Mark Salling)
"What chance do I have of not being an idiot and hurting people without him being around and reminding me who I really am?"
8. Sue Sylvester (Jane Lynch)
"Cut the crap, will ya? I don't care about that. I don't care about people. I care about him. He was such a good guy and I'll never get to tell him. There's not lesson here. There's not happy ending, there's just nothing. He's just gone."
9. Rachel Berry (Lea Michele)
"I talk to him a lot. I can still see his face and I can hear his voice so clearly. Do you think that I'll ever forget it, because I'm afraid that one day I will."
Lea Michele was Montieth's real life girlfriend, and played Finn's Girlfriend Rachel on the show. Here's Rachel singing the Adele hit "Make You Feel My Love" on the episode. I'm posting it here, but I'm not watching it... I'm saving it until I get to see the whole show.
I still feel the need to give out a piece of musical info... this song was originally written and recorded by Bob Dylan, and covered by many other people before Adele made it a smash.
